Ant Man – A brief (including info about the comics )

On July 17th Ant Man will be released – this will be the last Marvel movie to be released this year.

Critics say that this a big risk for Marvel. However they also thought that of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and that turned out to be a huge hit for Marvel and was a realistic (ish) movie as Starlord wanted to save the universe as he ‘was one of the idiots living in it’ . They also say that ‘Ant Man’ is just a marketing movie to boost popularity for the Avengers- this is shown in one of the trailers.

Through the multiple amazing trailers, you can tell it will be a funny movie maybe as funny as GOTG (but it’s hard to beat Chris Pratt tbh).

Basic Plot Line

Thief Scott Lang must aid his mentor Dr. Hank Pym in safeguarding the mystery of the Ant-Man technology – which allows its user to decrease in size but increase in strength – from various new threats, and plot a heist that will save the Earth from evil men who plan to use the suit for military and personal gain.

How the Ant-Man Suit works

In the comics, the suit uses Pym Particles, which alters the mass and size of any objects that it gains contact with. This means that one can increase and decrease in size at will. However, in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe, gosh), the official way the suit works is that it shifts the particles of objects into an alternate dimension, changes the size and brings it back into the dimension the object was shifted from. This is a subtle entrance to the magical area of the MCU, which will be explored more in Dr Strange in 2016.

Users of Pym Particles

Overall, there have been at least 4 well known users of Pym Particles, 3 of which have been integrated into the MCU already. Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man (in the comics) who discovered Pym Particles and utilised them for good. The Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) she is also Hank Pym’s wife in the comics), has not been introduced as the Wasp as far as we know however Janet Van Dyne is the lady who is seen teaching Paul Rudd (Actor of Ant-Man) how to punch. Finally, the only other person in the MCU that has been well-known to use Pym Particles is Scott Lang, a man who stole the Ant-Man suit from Hank Pym (in the comics) to help support his daughter. However, he was caught and Hank Pym let him off, telling him to keep the suit.

Cast

Paul Rudd stars as Scott Lang/Ant Man. The cast also includes Evangeline Lily, who you may know as Tauriel from The Hobbit Trilogy as Hank’s daughter, Hope Van Dyne, and Corey Stoll as the villainous Darren Cross AKA Yellowjacket. Other cast members that have been announced are Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale and Martin Donovan.
